I’ve finally finished moving into the new apartment. Or rather, I’ve installed myself, I doubt the term “finish” will feel valid this side of the Summer. Still, it’s getting there, with planned furniture shopping and whatnot.
It’s a spacious three room apartment in old style, with (non-functional) fireplace and all. I like it, although it differs quite a lot from the cottage on the countryside type of living we had before.
What I don’t like is the fact that my broadband wasn’t installed on time. I’ve lost a full two weeks of planned work time, in addition to the five days planned. That’s not good, and it leaves me and some of my clients in a little fix. My apologies, not much I can do at this time though.
While I feel quite certain that this coming week will be full of catching up on both e-mail and reading, as well as forming new partnerships and delivering designs and code, I do plan on get back to regular blogging more or less right away. Hopefully I’ll be able to take a few hours to launch TDH 2.0 here as well, the Swedish beta is working out nicely so it shouldn’t be so hard. And with that comes content, as you already know.
Mixing it with the snooker World Championships of course.
I’m living in a box, almost literally. This weekend will be spent carrying furniture, boxes and all that junk you can cram into a house. I’m going to try and cram it into the new apartment, that will certainly be a challenge.
This means that I’ll be offline from Friday ’til Monday afternoon at the very least. Most likely something will mess with me and my broadband connection will suffer, but we’ll see. If everything works out as it should I’ll be up and running again sometime Monday.
Until then I’m trying to get my business in order. I screwed up a code delivery which annoys the hell out of me, so I’ll spend the evening fixing that. Inbetween packing boxes of course.
In other words, I’m semi-off this week. When things are back to normal I’m hoping to launch the TDH 2.0 beta here at tdhedengren.com as well - although the tdh.se one is missing some things it seems to run smoothly enough.
There you have it, typed on my MacBook sitting on a box.
I don’t like eggs. I just don’t, although I can eat them. I don’t hate them. A fried egg on bread, perhaps with some roasted onion and chili sauce, sure. But a boiled one is just boring. Perhaps a little less boring if someone have painted it, but still boring.
Still, Easter is here and I’m taking some time off. Not to celebrate it, but to be with friends and family and contemplate myself. Perhaps not that last part.
I will have scotch though. Whisky for us real people.
See you next week. Happy Easter!
One of the reasons for me redesigning tdhedengren.com is that I want more freedom with my content. This theme, the hacked version om Simplr I’m using, works well enough if you have a couple of posts each week and can accept that your writing will be pushed out of focus in a pretty harsh way. I generally don’t, but seeing how this blog filled its purpose I didn’t pursue it seriously. The idea was to let it exist as a newsletter to my loyal followers, or whoever that happened to stumble across it, but not working with the content not only makes it a poor experience, it also doesn’t do it for me in terms of enjoyment. And I’d like to enjoy my blogging.
With a more thought through content design in terms of categories, tagging and archives, as well as the way you can focus on posts you like and things like that, I intend to make my blog more enjoyable to both read and maintain.
These are things I intend to cover, examine and do when the new version is out.
- I’ve switched to Mac, from PC. I’ll tell you all about it in a series of posts.
- In-depth looks on design gigs I’ve done, with me explaining why I did what I did (and you telling me what you think was the right decision and what wasn’t, hopefully).
- Feature-like posts on topics I have a strong opinion on, like the Old Media Syndrome posts sort of. This one will not clash with 901am of course, so there’s a bit of fine-tuning to be done…
- Decent archives, search pages and tag clouds.
- Informational pages so that you can get in touch with me as well as get information on how to hire me for your project, no matter if it’s design or blogging. Although most of that will go through 901pm.
- Syndicated content from projects I’m involved in, both ones I maintain myself and those I just work on as a blogger.
- I’ll be able to generally push things I like or want to put focus on at the moment. This could be a new design I did, a blog launch that I think you would enjoy or something like that. In other words, my new blog will have a traditional sidebar.
Not all at once of course, but they will come around. I also intend to blog the 2.0 creation process, with design drafts and things like that. Hopefully someone will learn something from it.
That’s a first… Wordpress ate my post. I’m blaming the autosave feature. It’s all gone. I’m not rewriting it since it’s the most boring thing in the world… I will update Wordpress though.
Anyway, I have relaunched my Swedish blog in all haste. It’s located at tdh.se and runs a very early version of the TDH theme that I will use for TDH 2.0. The reason for this crazy launch is my recent sale of my Swedish sites, which of course merits a few blog posts.
Take a look and let me know what you think about the design. It’s very, very much beta and will probably not work in all browsers. My Swedish readers might want to bookmark it too.
Commercial sites, that is. I’m going to relaunch my blog in Swedish pretty soon but that’s it. So yeah, I’ve sold ‘em all, including Kong. I’m staying on for a while to make sure everything goes smoothly, then we’ll see. The new owners, Umit, will make something good of this I’m sure, otherwise I wouldn’t have sold the sites of course.
Ten years as a Swedish games journo. Granted, lately I’ve been more and more focused on the international blogging and new media scene, as well as working with design. I plan on to further delve into these things.
But as I said, I’m staying on for quite some time.
I’ve been using a modified version of the Simplr theme all this time. The blog got launched just for the sake of putting me out there, blog wise, so that great people like Matt Craven could find my writing. Which in turn led to me getting into the loop, doing design gigs and ending up on 901am.
The Simplr theme is nice, clean and straight forward, pretty well suited for a blog with not some many posts each week. However, I’ve surely grown out of it for one thing, and also I think I should use one of my own designs.
So I’ve started sketching up TDH 2.0, which just is a silly working name for this project. Basically, it’s a new design for tdhedengren.com that will allow me to do a little bit of different posting (more frequently too), and also will give a push for projects I’m involved in. I’ve blogged a bit haphazardly here previously, which was the idea frmo the start since I wanted to land blogging gigs, but succeeding that it’s about time I get my stuff in order. With the new version there will be set goals, thought through categories and syndication from other sites I write on. I might also do a Swedish version focusing on my stuff there, but that won’t clash with this one…
I’ve been thinking about this for a while and now I’ve reached the point where I pull out my pencil (yeah, I like to sketch by hand first) before actually getting started. Granted, this will probably be a work in progress for quite some time since I’ve got lots of work to do, but just getting the ball rolling is important enough.
I’ll keep you guys posted. Do subscribe the RSS feed if you want to make sure you don’t miss anything!
