The new Digg is just as much community as it is a social news tool, at least if you want it to be. You can add links to other online presences you might have, upload a few photos, avatars of course, write a short bio… It goes on, very community-ish indeed.
You can also send shouts to your friends, with links and whatnot. At first I got a few “welcome to Digg” and other pleasantries.
Then it degraded. Read more
In this modern age the computer have since long killed the typewriter, and handwriting only drags along in the form of scribbled notes and shopping lists. Analog writing is dead, digital is King, right?
Wrong!
I’ve since long been a notebook freak, as in paper notebook, not small laptop. At times I had a notebook for each project, which isn’t something I employ right now since it added clutter. I’ll be talking more about clutter later on, by the way. Read more
I’m a pretty versatile guy. I do decent enough designs and make a decent living on it. I write well enough to make some more money that way, and being thick-headed enough to try writing fiction in a language that isn’t even my native one. I’ve been around in this webbish world longer than most, earned a lot, survived dotcom, almost crashed but picked myself up again.
There’s two things I truly suck at, though. One is selling stuff, be it ads or products. That’s not my thing, probably for the same reason as the other thing, namely tooting my own horn.
And if you want to succeed in blogging, you really need to learn that skill. Read more
This one’s for an upcoming project. I’m not the one behind it for once, although I did manage my favorite illustrator, Reine Rosenberg, on it. He’s usually very attuned to my wishes, and I think he got it just right.
What do you think?
Expect more on the Orn project during the coming days. It’s coming along nicely, and will an ongoing topic on this blog.
I used to say that my reading came and went. At times I devoured books, at other I rarely read anything else than stuff online.
No more. English isn’t my native language, so I’m always looking to further expand it. What better way than reading books?
Also, it’s obviously something I enjoy.
I decided to pay a visit to the city of Lankhmar in the fantasy world of Nehwon, created by sword and sorcery legend Fritz Leiber (1910-1992). A bookstore recommended the Fantasy Masterworks series and The First Book of Lankhmar, which felt like a great place to start. Read more
I’m finding myself less eager to use digital calendars. Previously, I had all my planning in Google Calendar. That made sense because I needed to share it with co-workers, but when that need more or less disappeared I found myself wanting something else.
Enter the Mac and iCal, a nice enough calendar that comes pre-loaded in OS X. It’s good, it has a todo-list, something I missed in Google Calendar, having switched from Outlook in the first place. I’ve used iCal for quite some time, but now I want to move on. Read more
Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve launched a new blog. You’ll find daily blog posts from yours truly over at rethord.com!
I’ll keep tdhedengren.com as a portfolio and services page - expect it to be updated to a new fresh design, showing off my mad skillz, and promoting myself and what I can do for you, coming this November. As you know, I’ve already changed the front.
I’m doing the capital mistake when launching rethord.com, and I hope you know it. I know all about it, it would be shameful not to, given my track record with blog launches and projects started over the last ten years. And yes, I’ll go into that at another time.
So what is it already?
Always have your site ready before the launch. No under construction signs or stuff like that, it’s not only unprofessional, it’s also tacky (I’ve left them out here though). Don’t launch sites that aren’t done yet! Read more
Folks, I’m going to update tdhedengren.com during the coming days, and make some crazy changes while my new blog rolls out. Please bear with me. Thanks.
