Freelance Friday: My Writing Week 35 0

This week looks slower than it actually was. Some things are still in the pipeline, but others have been submitted and is awaiting publication. There has also been some interesting discussions, which might or might not have an impact on my freelance writing in the near future. You can expect more on that soon, I hope.

Most of my posts on The Blog Herald were news posts this week, so I’ll just point you to my author page for more on that.

The Green Knight III: Giving Noble Assistance 0

Stiel set out at dawn. Stickle Pass wasn’t far from Windy Bridge, but the trail was rocky, twisted, and not suitable for a horse’s hooves. The green-haired Knight-in-Waiting didn’t want to risk his horse’s health for such a short trek, so he went by foot, the shield swung over his shoulder and the longsword in its scabbard by his side, helmet hanging by the belt.

“Beware the wise-woman,” was Falt’s parting words. “She is a witch and not to be trusted.”

The farmer had volunteered to accompany him, but Stiel had refused. “This is my task, and my battle,” he’d said, “and besides, I travel faster on my own.”

The chain-mail chafed, made him sweat. It felt heavier than usual. Read more

Freelance Friday: My Writing Week 34 0

It has been a quiet freelancing week for me. Not because I haven’t written any posts, no, rather, I’ve been focused on editing new contributor’s work and getting them into the groove, as well as written my fair share of news posts, rather than longer stuff. As you probably know by now, I only feature posts that I feel is a little meatier here on Freelance Friday, so the list is short this week. Nevertheless, here it is!

I also did an interview with Ryan Caldwell of Performancing fame over at BloggerTalks. Not exactly freelancing, but you should read it anyway.

Don’t forget to stalk me for more goodness. Expect another part in The Green Knight short story this weekend, by the way. Have a great weekend!

Why I bought an Asus Eee PC 900 9

Last week I bought an Asus Eee PC 900, a 8.9” laptop, being very portable and using a SSD disk, which makes it more durable when moving around. That last part was important to me, so I’m accepting the limited lifespan of SSD disks, which you only can write to a finite amount of times.

I went with the 900 model sold in Sweden, because I wanted a Swedish keyboard so that I can sell it when I want to upgrade to a better machine, which I know I will. Initially I wanted the 901 model, but since delivery times from the UK was too long to fit my needs, I went with the crappy 16 GB version you probably shouldn’t get. It was cheap though, so just the fact that I can work during my current trip pays for it in time well spent. Or it should anyway, we’ll see how well it turns out, as I’ve spent less than an hour on the train so far… Read more

Freelance Friday: My Writing Week 33 0

As promised, I’m following up on last week’s new installment, Freelance Friday, to help you stalk me light. Basically, I’m highlighting more interesting, longer freelance posts, and some others, in these posts, which should help anyone interested to keep up to date.

I’ve had a rough week with lots of stuff going on behind the scenes. That’ll probably be pretty obvious next week, I think, depending on when various gigs go online.

I’d also like to apologize to my Twitter followers for not getting the Asus Eee PC 900 post up yet. I’ve played a lot with it, and have lots to tell/brag/bitch about, but it has just been too much to wrap it up. The planned fiction update this weekend will probably not appear either, I’m traveling and unless I find decent wifi I won’t be able to wrap it up accordingly.

The Green Knight II: The Wise-Woman Calling 0

A few days later, Falt arrived with provisions from the village of Qaiel. Together, the Knight-in-Waiting and the farmer had a pleasant day, salvaging skins from the furry possums that roamed the plainsland.

“The old wise-woman asked for you”, said Falt that evening.

“Oh?”

Stiel had heard about the wise-woman before, an old crone living in Stickle Pass not too far from the Windy Bridge. It was what the villagers called the wilderness, and that made them think of her as weird. The old woman had their respect, however, because of her potions, salves, and the help she offered women bearing children, or wanting to. She was as close to a midwife as anyone could remember Qaiel having, she just didn’t live there. The green-haired young man had never heard her name spoken. Read more

Freelance Friday: What I’ve Been Writing Week 32 1

I thought I’d start a new installment here, for those of you that aren’t up to stalking me full time. Basically, it is me linking more prominent freelance writing I’ve done during the week, and since I’m the kind of guy who at least try to not work on weekends, you won’t be missing anything. I won’t be linking every post I’ve done, however, since there’s quite a lot of those, especially over at The Blog Herald, so just the longer, or more interesting, stuff. So here goes.

I’ve been twittering as well, of course. This week, I haven’t been all that active on the Hive forums, still easing back from the summer pace I guess. That’s it for the week. Stay tuned for a fiction update this weekend!

Setting Weekly Goals to Increase Your Productivity 5

Not that kind of goal...

Not that kind of goal...

It is not just todo lists and planning that can make your week a little easier, and increase your productivity. As you probably know, I have my own strategy when it comes to managin my week all figured out, I wrote about it in the post Using Weekly Planning to Increase Productivity, and unless you have read that one already, you probably should do so before moving on to this one.

By setting up weekly goals in conjunction with your todo lists and scheduled work, you’ll be able to get those more fluid tasks under control as well. This is how I do it. Read more

The Blog Herald Gets a New Design 3

I have given The Blog Herald a new design to better fit my needs as the appointed editor of this site. Splashpress Media owns it, and commissioned the redesign, and although I’ve stamped it with the dreadful word beta, I’m pretty happy with it. There’s much more to do of course, there always is, but this one just isn’t done yet.

One of the things I intend to tackle with this redesign is the way important content gets pushed out the door, we’ve got great weekly specials like WordPress Wednesday by the excellent Lorelle VanFossen (interview over at BloggerTalks), and Movable Type Monday by Arvind Satyanarayan (also interviewed over at BloggerTalks). This kind of content needs more attention, and I intend to solve that. Read more
