Giving in to the Heat (You Need Focus to Prevail)

beer.jpgThe heat is making my head hurt today, totally killing my focus unless I take breaks. Taking breaks is always good, but mine get longer and longer, until they totally makes me fail my goals.

Wikipedia started it. I wanted to check up on that Robin guy who apparently left Guns n’ Roses, going back to Nine Inch Nails. Now, Axl Rose might be crazy or just slightly too much of a perfectionist, but why you’d want to go to NIN is beyond me… Anyway, that lead to the Guns n’ Roses entry on Wikipedia, which sent me to the page for upcoming album Chinese Democracy. I should’ve known where that would lead, should have just closed my browser and dived into the WordPress codex solving issues with the upcoming Blog Herald design.

I didn’t. I started iTunes instead, pumping GnR, while stumbling onto Alice Cooper’s Wikipedia page. Nothing new there, really, but I wanted to know if anyone had written anything about Along Came A Spider, the album due any day now. There was, of course. That in turn lead to alicecooper.com, relaunched with a cool teaser trailer for the conceptual album, and a lot better than the previous (somewhat poor) iteration.

That lead to MySpace, where you can listen to Along Came A Spider (unless you’ve already got it, like I do), which I think is really cool. The full album is there, it seems, and that shows at least some understand to today’s music industry, something few old school musicians can sport, including Gene Simmons.

The alicecooper.com visit also lead to a recently launched official YouTube channel, sporting more of those delightful trailers for the Along Came A Spider album, so a subscription was due there too.

And now I’m more interested in listening to music than hacking code, doing design, or anything. The sun shines, the window is open, and I’m seriously considering a cold beer.

Cranking the volume up just plain reminds me that there’s more to life than work. Which really just means that I, being a freelancer and all, will have to pull an all-nighter soon, or work this weekend.

That’s fine. Right now rock is making me feel great. Join me.
