There’s nothing wrong with John Chow’s post on how to sell private advertising. In fact, I agree with him overall, although I think other things are more important than having direct ad sales for a blog. Could be at least, it all depends of course.
John Chow’s post led me to the OIOpublisher Direct plugin for WordPress, which costs $37. It’s probably a good plugin, since John’s endorsing it, as is Weblog Tools Collection. However, the landing pages looks like an e-book scam product push. Why is that?
And you know what, I would turn at the door at that if I was interested in purchasing the plugin. It’s not the money, it’s the fact that I just don’t want to be scammed, and anyone can fake a few endorsements. If it wasn’t for the recommendation over at John Chow’s site, of course…
Landing pages should be assuring, good looking, and not smell like scam. If you’ve got a good product to sell, please do it right.
