I’ve been running the Safari 3 beta on Mac for quite some time now, feeling happy about it. Unfortunately, although Apple claims it should work well with Google Apps, it seems it can get the users in quite a fix.
See, Google just restricted my access to my Gmail account!
What did I do with it? Well, Safari doesn’t manage to send mails every now and then, and that means you need to stop and click send again. Same goes sometimes when you’re browsing your e-mails and clicks on links just won’t register. Then you need to reload the Gmail page and you’re golden again.
That’s what I did. That’s when Google did this:

That’s for reloading Gmail, people. Nothing more, nothing less. I do not use my account for spamming, sending large files, storing data or anything out of the ordinary. I just e-mail with it. I’m not even close to a quota or anything. Again, I’m just e-mailing with it!
And that’s for reloading Gmail!
This is not acceptable. I no longer see Gmail as a good first hand choice for e-mail because of this. It was easier to cope with before, when Safari just didn’t work well with Gmail, but this is outrageous.
Be warned. It could happen to you, and it might even happen under other browsers. Web hiccups isn’t exactly that uncommon, now is it?
Google need to get its act together, and Apple needs to fix Safari’s issues. Now.
Edit: It’s on Digg, please digg it if you’d like!
Update! They’ve open up access to my Gmail account again.

That’s madness indeed! I’ve submitted this post to Digg:

Hope it sorts itself out but I’m thinking twice about GMail usage again…
Thanks, I’ve updated the post!
I don’t use Safari or a Mac, but I digged it anyway, because I know how annoying it can be to be without emails. Today I’m upgrading to Dedicated Server and have been without emails since early this morning.
I wonder who is emailing me but, I’ll probably end up getting 99% spam emails and shouldn ‘t worry too much.
Good to see I’m not the only one who notices that Safari 3 Beta seems to have issues sending things. I’ve noticed that hitting the ‘Save Now’, waiting until it Saves then hitting ‘Send’ allows it to work fine. I haven’t run into the links not working though I use the keyboard interface heavily so I’m not sure if that influences things.
