Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog

Three web services you should use

In lack of other things to say (stuff going on that’s taking all my time) here, projects to launch and masterpieces to link I give you three web services you really should try out. Really. They’ll make your life easier.

I realize putting some stuff on the web isn’t ideal for everyone, but for me – always on the go (perky-perky) – having things accessible from every computer connected to the internet is just great.

So here goes.

Gmail
Oh, the obvious one. Google’s Gmail is the best webmail I’ve tried, and that’s quite a few – both commercial and free, hosted in my or someone else’s server environment. Yahoo actually keeps up pretty well but I am oh so pleased with Gmail.

Del.icio.us
Social bookmarking felt a bit awkward to me at first, but now – with a great Firefox extension by del.icio.us themselves – everything is so handy that I can’t look away. I bookmark just about anything that I want to read now or later, that I want to save for future references or that’ll just stay there until I’m done with it. There are other contenders here and I can’t say I’ve tried them all, but that doesn’t make del.icio.us any less great.

Bloglines
I subscribe to almost 200 RSS feeds. Bloglines makes it possible, easily sorted and accessible. It’s not perfect but it sure gets the job done.
