Landing Pages Shouldn’t Smell Like Scam, People! 0

There’s nothing wrong with John Chow’s post on how to sell private advertising. In fact, I agree with him overall, although I think other things are more important than having direct ad sales for a blog. Could be at least, it all depends of course.

John Chow’s post led me to the OIOpublisher Direct plugin for WordPress, which costs $37. It’s probably a good plugin, since John’s endorsing it, as is Weblog Tools Collection. However, the landing pages looks like an e-book scam product push. Why is that?

And you know what, I would turn at the door at that if I was interested in purchasing the plugin. It’s not the money, it’s the fact that I just don’t want to be scammed, and anyone can fake a few endorsements. If it wasn’t for the recommendation over at John Chow’s site, of course…

Landing pages should be assuring, good looking, and not smell like scam. If you’ve got a good product to sell, please do it right.

What you can do with your not so big blog, however, is get spinoff results. I didn’t have that many readers when I got my first freelance gig (for The Blog Herald incidentally, coming full circle now, aren’t I?), and I certainly didn’t have great numbers to lean on when Syntagma signed me up for redesigning their network templates.

The lesson here is that you can get spinoff from your blog way earlier than the ads are starting to pay for your coffee habits. Read more
