Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog

Tagged blogging

Wow. This is the first time I have an asides like functionality on any of my blogs, and I find it totally addictive, as you can see below. Five posts, five asides post, and then a regular one (like the one you’re reading now), followed by a somewhat more sane use of asides.

I find it very easy to share something funny with you all, dear readers, using asides. A bit too easy really, since it means that I risk to pump out a bunch of posts each day, but none are really original content. Links are great, but I know you’re dying to hear what I have to say, even if you’re reading it. Sometimes I think that having to go through a bit more hassle is a good way to make sure you’re taking the time needed, although I won’t go so far as to blabber about Slow Blogging…

Anyway, if you’re as addicted to asides – mine or the pure notion of having them on your blog – you should read my post on the matter over at Devlounge. The upcoming WordPress 2.7 certainly does a lot of things right, that’s for sure.

And I promise I’ll write more posts. I’ve been busy, that’s all I can say.

workstation.jpgLaura Spencer over at Business and Blogging did a follow-up on my Would You Trust an Online Friend post, but with a slightly different twist. She takes the business blogger angle, naturally, and rephrasing the question like so.

In fact, I would ask the question in this way: Do your readers trust you enough to do business with you?

This is a valid question if any, for any blogger really, although the business could be swapped for if there is trust enough to follow a shopping advice, or even returning to your blog for more at all. Laura provides five suggestions on how business bloggers can build trust:

1. Be genuine.
2. Be reliable.
3. Be consistent.
4. Be responsive.
5. Be current.

Naturally, she’s got explanations for these in her post, all worth to consider. Read more →

Stiel on his way to the StandYesterday I wrote about me getting back to fiction. Today I’m launching OrnTales.com, my fantasy fiction project. Be sure to check it out if you’re into these kind of things. There will be an on-going short story all the time, with two new parts published each week. The first one is called Quest for Knighthood, and the first part is up, with the next one due on Wednesday.

To me, this is an exciting project. It’ll be very interesting to see how I can use the blogging format, as well as the blogosphere – although it’ll be in parts of it that I’m not well-versed at all – for promoting my fiction.

For now, I’m happy to have launched it. This week have not started well, so I’ll settle for that.

Enjoy OrnTales.com, and be sure to tell me what you think!

The trumpet’s just hanging there, man!I’m a pretty versatile guy. I do decent enough designs and make a decent living on it. I write well enough to make some more money that way, and being thick-headed enough to try writing fiction in a language that isn’t even my native one. I’ve been around in this webbish world longer than most, earned a lot, survived dotcom, almost crashed but picked myself up again.

There’s two things I truly suck at, though. One is selling stuff, be it ads or products. That’s not my thing, probably for the same reason as the other thing, namely tooting my own horn.

And if you want to succeed in blogging, you really need to learn that skill. Read more →

Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve launched a new blog. You’ll find daily blog posts from yours truly over at rethord.com!

I’ll keep tdhedengren.com as a portfolio and services page – expect it to be updated to a new fresh design, showing off my mad skillz, and promoting myself and what I can do for you, coming this November. As you know, I’ve already changed the front.

I’m back from my vacation, rested but loaded with work to be done in the coming two weeks. Business is good, thank you very much, I’ve got design gigs lined up and the requests keeps coming in.

In other words, I’m not complaining – but coming back from more than a week off is a bitch, honestly.

Anyway, I’m pumped up for projects and stuff, which means I need to start rolling out my new tdhedengren.com blog. It will make use of the design I made for my Swedish blog, tdh.se, and will sport regular updates. I guess I have to get myself a portfolio as well, my hire me page isn’t very exciting.

So I’m back. If I haven’t answered your e-mail that you sent no more than two weeks ago then send it again.

Peace out, people!

“You should blog again!” said David Krug a few minutes ago. “It’s almost been a month!”

It has, hasn’t it? The thing is, I’ve been holding out for the launch of my new design (already up in beta on tdh.se). Unfortunately, I’ve been too swamped to actually put the hours into it that is needed.

Yeah, I suck.

Still, it’s on the radar. And when I’ve relaunched I’ll be blogging more frequently about things, doing series of posts and so on.

In the meantime, sorry David and folks. I’m in a hiatus here at the moment.

Do subscribe to the RSS feed to get the latest dirt when it relaunches.
