Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog

Today I spent $36 on registering three domains for upcoming projects, including the upcoming one I wrote about earlier. Well, soon anyway, I’m expecting the final receipt any minute now. It’s here and they’re all mine!

Yep, stuff’s going on.

Now if I just could find some time to write a few words about The Scar

I’ve gotten quite a few questions from people I know and will get to know about blogging. Why blog, what can I do and so on. When convinced that they actually should blog, then comes the how’s.

I always recommend Wordpress, an open source blogging software that kicks ass, but to some people even this nifty little thing can be a hassle to install.

So I point them to Wordpress.com, Automattics’ hosted Wordpress solution that also kicks ass. And I get a suspicious reply, ending up with listing the features for the service to convince them I actually know what I’m talking about. Which I do.

No more. Thank you, Wordpress.com.

I always thought that the Orn project would be my first international launch (not counting this blog of course) but that will not be the case. As of today I have four projects in the pipeline with the first one only weeks from announcement, and then an additional week or two before it launches.

Yes, it’s a blog.
Yes, it’s in English.
Yes, it revolves around the blogosphere.
Yes, I’ll let John Evans read it as well.

Blog network b5media just announced that they’ve secured $2 million in funding. The whys from an investors’ point of view gets laid out by Rick Segal, and a nice resume of what’s happened is available at The Blog Herald.

Sweet, and congrats b5’ers! It’ll be interesting to see what comes out of the additional cash.

Martin Neumann, who also writes for The Blog Herald, commented on my recent post regarding Instablogs niche gadget blogs. Blogs are the (not so) new big thing, we all know that. Print media is having a hard time battling the internet in the first place, but add to that professional blogs with their fluid content flow and you have a real suckerpunch to the media establishment.

I made some noise over at The Blog Herald the other day, about blog network turning magazine; Syntagma Media.

They posted a witty remark on their blog. Funny.

The Blog Herald is a great blog about, er, blogs and the business around them. It’s the largest blog and news opinion site around, and we’re talking tens of thousands of readers daily here.

And now I’m there as a columnist, which is great fun so far. Sure, only one post so far but still – I’m very excited to be writing for this major site. In other words, my blog-biz related posts won’t appear on tdhedengren.com anymore, you’ll be reading them at The Blog Herald.

Wordpress.com starts to monetize is my first post, and I also have the great honor to get an introducing-post.

Now, finally, I’ll sign off for the weekend. The first anniversary is always special, isn’t it? I’ll know Monday morning.
