I’ve published another four photo sets from Japan to my Flickr account:
Had to upgrade to pro for this to work. Lots of photos… Anyway, follow my Japan 2008 collection for the latest from my trip to Japan!
It’s pretty surreal to be in Japan, a country and culture I’ve always been fascinated by. I think it hit its high today, when me and my Swedish friend Rickard visited Kyoto. We were there to take in a little more traditional Japanese architecture, as well as a big temple area. I’m still processing that latter part, sorting out pictures and such, but I can say that it was a great experience.
However, the surreal meter hit its high when a group of young girls approached me and my friend, wanting to take our picture! Sure, in Japan you stand out when you’re 190 cm (6,2″ or something) tall and have a red beard since your shaver died on the morning for departure. People look, and shy away when you look back at them, they’re all very friendly and modest, and they don’t want to offend you. I have no problem with that, some people might, but I don’t.
And sure, a picture lasts longer, but I still can’t believe they actually approached us wanting to snap a photo. Surreal is certainly the word for this.
Yep, you read it right. I’m phasing out rethord.com, and all posts previously found on that domain is now located here. During the day, a 301 permanent redirect of everything rethord.com will be activated.
Meanwhile, say hello to tdhedengren.com in a new suit. Everything isn’t ready by a long shot, but I wanted it up and running before I’m taking off to Osaka, Japan tomorrow morning. Expect Flickr links and posts here from the trip. It’s very much beta at the moment, but I expect every page to at least resolve to something coherent within the day.
My goal is to consolidate blogging related to me, including portfolio stuff and such. More on this in a later post, now I better get back to getting things up and running. Thanks for your patience.
Have you seen the Mahalo’s Firefox toolbar, called Mahalo Follow? Then you’ve seen what great taste the good folks over at Mahalo have. Here’s a screenshot:

Recognize something? Fun stuff.
Actually, I celebrate Christmas, but who cares. I just wanted to wish you all Happy Holidays, and urge you to take it really ease, relax as much as possible, and enjoy the time off. As of today, now really, I’m doing just that. Logging off includes not checking in on e-mail, no IM, no microblogging, actually no internet.
And no rethord.com. I’ll be back at work on January 7th, so expect this blog to come back to life around that time as well. Make sure you subscribe so that you don’t miss out, now that’s a good idea, don’t you think?
Happy Holidays, good people!
I’ve had a few bad months for my own personal projects. Being ill and having crunch time on my biggest client project yet (May ’til December, crazy), as well as all my normal design gigs, well, it takes its toll.
However, the lack of planned re-launches and new launches can partly be blamed on people not holding up to their promises. You see, I work with a lot of people, and whenever I can I outsource to save time, as well as help fellow coders and designers out. Read more →
I’ve learned something these last two weeks, time spent resting and trying to keep up with the essentials in work and life. Being ill can hit you hard, and although I didn’t have to go to the hospital or anything, it sure can be a bit more than a nuisance nonetheless.
But I’ve learned something, and that’s good. Something to help me relax and unwind, when my mind doesn’t want to, and books won’t do it for me. Read more →
Don’t you just hate it when people who owe you money doesn’t pay up? It could be a friend who borrowed some cash, and then keeps putting it off paying you back, or a client ignoring your invoices. If it’s the former you’ll have to be careful not hurting the relationship, although your non-paying friend sort of already’s doing that by not paying you back. Still, you can chose to be the bigger person, if you can afford it, and not make a big deal of it. Whether you remind the friend in question of the debt or no, you have personal things to take into account, and that’s makes it a bit tricky, and – hopefully – the actual money owed, the cold hard cash, is the least of the problem.
